The National Museum Celebrates International Museum Day

The National Museum joins other museums around the world in celebrating International Museum Day by offering tours and activities to guests and visitors on Thursday, May 18, 2017. This year’s theme is “Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums”.

Admission to the National Museum is FREE of charge. The museum is open Tuesdays to Sundays, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The International Museum Day celebration at the National Museum will kick-off with a FREE Contested Histories Tour in the morning and end with a Doodling and Lettering Workshop for Mothers in the afternoon. In solidarity with the National Museum’s event, a talk will be given by Luisito T. Evangelista, PhD, at the Launching of Mobile Boxes Exhibit in Subangan Museum, Davao.

Repertory Philippines (REP), the country’s premier theater company, celebrates its golden year in a musical gala called REP: 50 Years of Telling Stories featuring all the Repertory stage greats at The Theatre at Solaire. Alliance française de Manille’s (AFM) Ciné-Club presents Timbuktu, a French-Mauritanian film by African director Abderrahmane Sissako about the life of a cattle herder and his family amidst the ideological dogma imposed by radical jihadists in Mali.

Timbuktu, a 2014 Palme d’Or nominee, will be shown at the AFM Auditorium on May 3, 2017 (Wednesday) at 8:30 pm. Admission is FREE and open to the public. No registration is required.

The Alliance Française de Manille (AFM), founded in 1920, is one of the most prominent foreign cultural institutions in the Philippines. Lean, A Filipino Musical

Catch Lean: A Filipino Musical at the Adamson University Theater on May 12 (7:30 pm) and May 13 (4 pm and 7:30 pm). Presented by UP Manila Dramatista, Lean is a musical based on the life of activist, nationalist and student leader Leandro “Lean” Alejandro. Alejandro fought for democracy against the backdrop of the Marcos dictatorship in the Philippines in the 80s.
